Find a Used Ford Explorer at Franklin Ford

Ford Explorer

The Ford Explorer was once a truck-based SUV that now has more car-like features. This mid-size SUV first hit the market in the late 90s and continued to evolve over the years. In 2011, the Explorer was the first of its kind to offer an infotainment system.

Most Explorer SUVs offer an array of standard features. From a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat to cruise control and heated front and rear seats, the Explorer features much of what you would expect from today's advanced technology.

Originally, the Explorer had a 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 with 255 lbs. of torque combined with a six-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive was available, and it was paired with technology such as a terrain management system for optimizing traction during specific driving conditions.

Ford later introduced the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 240-horsepower and 270 lbs. of torque. The engine offered more fuel efficiency for drivers who wanted to maintain some of the capabilities of the traditional SUV without breaking their bank accounts on gas.

During the 2013 model year, Ford introduced the Sport package. A 365-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 with standard four-wheel drive and a sport-tuned suspension was standard with this package. Ford also included passenger-side knee airbags. Over the next several years, Ford did not change much on the Explorer.

However, the Explorer later received a massive redesign with all-new wheel choices and an entirely new line of exterior styling. Ford began to offer the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with all-wheel drive. The 2.3-liter turbo replaced the 2.0-liter four-cylinder.

For 2020, Ford revamped the Explorer's design and performance features once again. The base-model engine is now a 300-horsepower 2.3-liter turbocharged engine. The top-of-the-line engine for the Explorer is now a 365-horsepower 3.0-liter V6. Ford also plans to include a hybrid option at some point in the future. Power lift gates are now a standard feature among all Ford Explorer SUVs.

Benefits of Buying a Certified Pre-Owned Ford Vehicle

If you wish to buy a Ford vehicle, but you want to maximize the value of your purchase, it may be worth considering Certified Pre-Owned models. These low-mileage and reliable pre-owned vehicles here in Franklin, MA have an approval stamp from the automaker itself. Here is why buying a Certified Pre-Owned Ford model at Franklin Ford is such a good idea. Strict Qualification Criteria Ford doesn't authorize all vehicles for the Certified Pre-Owned program. Instead, only high-quality used vehicles can be approved to ensure that you can feel confident in their quality. Ford uses strict criteria to assist in identifying qualifying vehicles. First, all models should be less than six years old to ensure they have cutting-edge safety tech and features. Second, the automaker demands that CPO vehicles should not exceed a mileage of 80,000. With this, you will have a car that will serve you for many years. Access to Vehicle History Report Ford needs a clean CARFAX vehicle history report to classify a vehicle as a Certified Pre-Owned. This report indicates what has been in the car over the years, from collisions and maintenance history. A vehicle with salvage title, frame damage, title issues, fire damage and accident history doesn't qualify for the program. A 172-Point Inspection A vehicle that satisfies Ford's model year and mileage requirements progresses to the inspection process. Thanks to Ford's 172-point inspection that recognizes imperfections and problems, you will get a vehicle that stands the test of time. Major problems disqualify the vehicle for certification, but minor issues are repaired with OEM parts. This inspection assesses a great range of systems and components in the vehicle, such as safety systems, body panels and bumpers, electrical systems, suspension and frame, powertrain and transmission and more. Warranty Coverage Even with the vehicle history report and thorough inspection, Ford goes a step further to make sure that you feel confident in its Certified Pre-Owned vehicles. Ford provides a comprehensive limited warranty for 12,000 miles or 12 months. You will also have a limited powertrain warranty that lasts 100,000 miles or seven years. When shopping for your next vehicle around Franklin, MA, consider a Certified Pre-Owned Ford model. Don't hesitate to stop by Franklin Ford and ask our professional team members any questions you may have!
